My creativity is driven by visuals and aesthetic of things, more than the context of them. A ‘story’ does not often inspire me, instead, I am speculative with materials and processes and let that drive the ideas and development. Testing with materials and techniques is a vital part of my design process. 

 

The main material that I use in my practice is textiles, particularly fabric, leather, thread and strings. My interest in textiles developed in my teenage years and it is a joy that I can carry out further experimentation in my practice. I believe there is much more potential and possibility in textiles and using fabric for jewellery. It is a very versatile material and sits comfortably on the body. The exploration of textiles can also generate a bridge between jewellery and fashion, which is an important aspect of my life. I see my work being worn as an everyday fashion piece or on fashion catwalks. I also like to incorporate elements of metal combined with textiles to stiffen and strengthen the form.

 

Form and structure are more important than colour in my work. Colour is a way to attract attention and enhance visual impact, but a form or structure has to be present in order for the colour to be applied. Form and structure can let the audience know what the subject and context of the object are representing in a straightforward way. Therefore, I concentrate more on the finishing and detailing of structure and form rather than colour.
